Welcome

Kington Rural GPC

The Kington Rural and Lower Harpton Group Parish Council is, as the name suggests, a merger of two small parishes.

It has fourteen Councillors, two from Lower Harpton and twelve from the Kington Rural.

It meets four times a year at Markwick Hall in Kington, generally, but not always, on a Thursday at 7.30pm. As with all Councils its meetings are open to the public.

It also meets, when required, to examine planning issues and plans submitted from within the Group Parish or where near to its boundaries. On these occasions all interested parties have a right to attend and to put forward their views on the planning applications and be heard by the Council.

Notice of all meetings is posted on the Council notice board on the Market Hall in the Place de Marines in Kington, on the notice board at Kingswood Village Hall and, rather quaintly, on the garage door of Mr and Mrs Reeves at Floodgates, Kington.

There are 284 households in the Group Parish. The precept for 2014-2015 is £4000, £14.08 per household.

It is hoped that this web site will be more readily accessible to those interested in Council business by enabling them to use the Internet. Notices of intended meetings will be posted on the web site in the form of the Agenda that is sent out to all Councillors prior to the meeting.

It should be noted that although this is not a Kington Rural and Lower Harpton Group Parish Council web site, the content conforms with the requirements of the “Transparency code for smaller authorities”. It is intended for all those who are interested in the Parish, its attractions and countryside or for those merely browsing the Web.

It is hoped that it will be seen as a tribute to all those who help to make the area an enjoyable place in which to live, despite its rural isolation. This list does of course include the above Council, the rural policing team and all other contributors to the welfare of the parish.
